Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.

"The Lost Whale Tail Beach House"

Misty Cliffs, Cape Town - Close to Cape Point.  The Lost Whale Tail offers unsurpassed views of the Atlantic ocean, the roaring ocean audible in every room, is west facing with spectacular sunsets, sheltered from the strong south-easterly winds in Summer and Misty Cliffs beach is steps away with Witsand and Scarborough beaches both within walking distance.  The area is especially popular with nature lovers, surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers.

The property has two levels; a top floor with study, bedroom and bathroom and a lower floor with two bedrooms each with a queen size bed (UK King size), storage, a bathroom with bath, shower and toilet, an open plan dining room and lounge with wood fireplace, as well as a fully equipped kitchen.  Air conditioner (both levels), a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer are available.

The property has a backup UPS system to ensure that electricity is available during the regular South African electricity outages (a relatively new occurrence in the country and can be daily, more than once daily or several times per week) for lights, wifi, TV, DVD, computers and security.  We also have gas heating and a gas travel hob with kettle available for power outages.

On the top floor a balcony offers the opportunity to sit or dine in the sun with spectacular views and the deck on the lower floor offers the same, but also includes a barbecue.  The garden, with fynbos, offers various areas to sit and dine depending on the weather.  We live in a conservation village with our own troop of baboons (important not to feed or approach them).  We often see dolphins, seals, whales, penguins, otters and a marvellous collection of birds (sunbirds, sugarbirds, mousebirds) from our balcony and downstairs deck.  It is difficult to get closer to nature than this.

Please note that the top floor is mostly unavailable for guests.  If you would like the top floor to be made available during your stay, please enquire before booking.

Parking is usually available for one vehicle.

Locally: Basic groceries available in Scarborough (small shops 1.7km from Misty Cliffs, beautiful drive and walking distance) and Kommetjie (larger convenience store 7km from Misty Cliffs, beautiful drive via Slangkop).  Longbeach Mall (large grocery stores, pharmacies, book and speciality shops 11km from Misty Cliffs) and shops and restaurants at the harbour in beautiful Simon's Town (14km via Red Hill route, beautiful drive) also offers good options.

Local farm stalls offer wonderful fresh local produce at Imhoff Farm and Rodger's Fruiterers as well as Noordhoek Farm Village, all close to Misty Cliffs.  Imhoff Farm also offers good restaurants and wonderful experiences for children (animal petting farm) and adults (goats and cheese) as well as camel rides.  Noordhoek Farm Village currently offers five restaurants/eating establishments, some casual and some less casual.  The Cape Farmhouse, between Scarborough and Cape Point, offers wonderful breakfasts and lunches.  Don't miss the Black Marlin, between Simon's Town and Cape Point, for history, wonderful seafood and views.

Horse riding on the beach can be arranged in Noordhoek at Sleepy Hollow and various music events are held at nearby venues in the Summer.  The local vineyard offers a Thursday afternoon food market with wonderful local produce and meals.  We would certainly recommend a visit to Cape Point (walk to both lighthouses and a boat trip can be taken from Simon's Town, which is well worth the trip if weather permits) and Boulders Beach, where you can spend the day on the beach swimming with penguins.  Be careful, they bite.

The property provides privacy, peace and quiet, without feeling isolated, while still affording good accessibility to Cape Town.  Cape Town city centre and the V&A Waterfront are 45-60 minutes drive from the property via Old Cape Road and M3, although we recommend taking Chapman's Peak and driving along the coast to the Waterfront, stopping frequently to take in the sights.  Wine farms in Paarl, Franschoek and Stellenbosch are more or less 90 minutes drive via N2 or N1 depending on location in the wine farms. All depending on traffic.  Please take note of driving routes and ensure that you avoid high risk areas if unfamiliar with Cape Town; ask for advice from reliable sources if need be.
